If you want to explore real-world problems at G2V Optics, we have assisted experts in solving them thanks to our Class AAA solar simulators. Check out our “Real-World Solar Simulator Applications” chapter on YouTube.

What Applications Does the Field of Solar Simulation Assist In?

A collage of areas using a solar simulator for testing: Aerospace, Wearables, Pharmaceuticals, Textiles, Automotive, Photochemistry, Smart Glass, Photovoltaic research, and Photovoltaic lines.

Solar simulators are commonly used to test solar cells, photochemistry applications, material testing, and other areas where light is core to their function. They are useful in experiments that require a stable and reliable light source.

You can use a solar simulator if you need to study any phenomenon that is driven by light (photons), for example, in:

Academic Lab

Aerospace

CubeSats

Solving the world doesn’t just happen in a commercial setting; it also happens in a post-secondary laboratory. Explore a dedicated page for experts in Academic labs.

From AM0 photovoltaic strings to Attitude and Orbital Controls (AOCS), solar simulators assist experts in testing these devices and others before launch. See our Aerospace page for more info.

Similar to Aerospace, CubeSats require similar testing but on a smaller scale. Having quality light gives you confidence in your future mission’s success. Explore our CubeSats page to learn what quality criteria experts look at.

LiDAR Sensors

Machine Vision Systems

Photochemistry

LiDAR sensors require quality light to simulate real-world conditions when mapping the Earth’s surface or monitoring roadways. Visit our LiDAR sensor pages for more information.

From production lines to vehicles on the roadway, machine vision applications are moving indoors to the outdoors, creating new light challenges. Venture to our Machine Vision Systems page to see how solar simulators help solve them.

Not all applications are on the macro scale; light is still required to drive reactions on the micro-scale. Our Photochemistry page explores what goes into hydrogen production, water-splitting, catalysis, and other photochemical reactions. Learn how solar simulators are helping to advance the field.

Solar Cell Research

Photovoltaic Manufacturing

Smart Glass

Extensive work is being conducted in the field of Photovoltaics. New materials and optimization of existing devices are central to creating a greener tomorrow. See how solar simulators play a role in Solar Cell Research.

The lab results from solar cell research demonstrate a commercial path forward, and this is where photovoltaic manufacturing takes over. Discover how solar simulators are a component used in line testers for Photovoltaic Manufacturing.

The field of smart glass, also known as switchable glass, smart films, and electrochromic glass, is growing. To keep up with its growth, it needs to replicate the real-world lighting conditions it will see. This is where solar simulators come in. Explore how solar simulators are assisting the Smart Glass industry.

Weathering & Material Testing

Wearables

How long will the material last? This is the fundamental question Material Testing Experts seek to answer. Our Weathering & Material Testing page explores their challenges and what is needed in a solar simulator.

With smartwatches, smartphones, and smart clothes, the wearables industry is expanding beyond accessories. Testing real-world conditions across the globe is becoming critical. Our Wearables page dives into the nuances of the field.

These are just a few of the areas where solar simulation is found. A key thing to remember in all of this accurately replicated sunlight is that it is required to be tested before moving to the next stage of research or deployment.

This is the last full chapter of our solar simulation article. Thanks for coming along and learning about the field; it is our passion and 9-5 job.
